Friday evening I attended the retirement party for Sheriff John Trumbo. He will be missed. The Sanctuary would not exist had he not supported it from the beginning. I remember the day I called him and ask if there were any animals that needed a home. It was a cold snowy day two years after my husband’s sudden death. I had spent many sleepless nights wondering what I would do with my life and my land. I visited the Sheriff’s office after that phone call and John had me talk to the Under Sheriff Terry Rowan about my idea for a farm animal Sanctuary. Terry took the project under his wing and with his guidance and hard work made the Sanctuary a reality. Friday evening I had to leave John’s retirement party early, they were in the process of listing John’s many accomplishments over the course of his career. I do hope they mentioned that he is responsible for an eight-hundred acre farm animal Sanctuary because it would be embarrassing for a rodeo town if it didn’t have a Sanctuary for the animals that have made it famous.
